Like the Lowbush Blueberry, this shrub blooms in spring with white flowers with a bit of pink. It is most abundant in open or wooded swamps or bogs, old fields and watersides. The fruits are blue-black in color and the fruits are quite tart. Fall color is can range from crimson to burgundy. Mature plants have craggy, contorted stems that add winter interests. Good for attracting wildlife.
