What is
it?
Our meadow plug program is geared towards the homeowner and restorationist
that is interested in converting a lawn, shrubby or wetland area into
a low maintenance, eco-friendly area that will attract birds, butterflies
and other wildlife species.
What are meadow plugs?
The meadow plugs that we sell are call “Deep Plugs” and are grown in
50 cell trays. The plug size is 2” wide by 4.5” deep. The cell is also
configured to reduce root spiraling. It has been shown that the survival
percent and ease of establishment is greater for deep plug versus other
more shallow cell methods.
How to puchase?
When trying to establish a meadow or landscape theme for a given area,
it is typical to use a minimum of one plug for every square foot of
ground you want to cover. For example, if you have a 100 square foot
section that you want to cover, you would need two 50 cell trays or
100 total plugs to cover the area.
What types of flowers are in each tray?
We currently have four theme areas for our meadow program: shade, butterfly,
wet meadow and dry meadow. See below for plants names for each theme.
How much does this cost?
See our price list for cost of theme packages. There is a minimum purchase
of 10 trays per theme package. For purchases of greater than 10 trays
we offer a 10% discount. Species type may be substituted depending
on availability.
Establishment and Maintenance
The establishment of any of the theme meadows we describe below will
require a degree of preparation and maintenance for 2-3 years until
the native species become fully established. We will provide you with
a complete how-to or recommend individuals that will assist you with
the establishment of your meadow site.
